Safe Computer!

Introduction

In the old days of computers (5 years ago) we had to be careful when inserting a strange floppy diskette because it could be infected with a virus.  While that hasn’t changed, issues of computer security were raised by an order of magnitude with access to the internet.  Now-a-days just connecting your computer to the internet puts it immediately at risk of infection—even if you don’t open your web browser—from software worms that prowl cyberspace like stalking wolves seeking vulnerable prey to attack and dispatch.  Your unprotected computer is like a lame sheep waiting to be pounced on.  There are steps you can take to protect your computer.  But there aren't enough places where those steps are provided in an easy-to-follow format.  That is why this website was created.  Use the following articles as a resource to help protect your computer from Viruses, Worms, Adware, Spyware, and Browser Hijacks.

While neither of these articles is the perfect solution, they do a fine job of helping you takes steps to protect and recover your computer from an infection.  The first article, Preparing your Windows XP computer to survive the Internet—Step by step, helps you to setup your new computer (or a computer you’ve freshly installed Windows XP on) prior to connecting it to the internet.  The second article, Recovering your Windows XP computer from a Virus, Worm, Adware, Spyware or Browser Hijack Infection, tries to help you recover an infected computer.
